I have now spent 2 1/2 weeks on the road, and I will tell you that the one thing you absolutely need while traveling is FLEXIBILITY.
While traveling, things will never work out exactly as planned, so you have to be flexible.
If you have the outlook that everything is working out perfectly, it makes it that much easier to change your plans at the last minute.
Take yesterday for example.
I had plans to stay the night in St. Louis at an Airbnb listing.
I got to town at 2:30pm, but check in wasn’t until 4pm, so I headed to the St Louis Zoo. I paid $15 for parking, but there is also street parking, and the zoo was free.
After the zoo, I stopped and had a wonderful caesar salad with smoked chicken, and some BBQ sweet potato chips at Salt & Smoke on Delmar.
After dinner, I headed to the Airbnb to check in.
However when I got there I had that feeling that it was not going to work for me.
First, I had to park on the street, which for me was not an option as my car is full from traveling for the last couple weeks.
Second, after sending the landlord a message, and not getting an immediate reply, I decided to continue on to KY and spend more time with my girlfriend. Of course, I checked with her first to make sure she was good with the new plan and her response was…come on in and I will wait up for you, just call me if you will be later than midnight.
The new plan worked out so much better. I got an excellent night sleep, and now I get to spend more time with my girlfriend. Even though she had to work today, it has given me time to catch up on my blog, and social media, and get my laundry started.
So just remember….sometime changes to the plan work out really, really well.
On a final note…always trust your instincts, especially when traveling alone, as that will keep you out of trouble you may not even realize is in your path.
Enjoy some pictures from the zoo.
