- Danish-Inspired Architecture: As you wander through Solvang’s streets, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a fairytale. The village’s architecture, inspired by traditional Danish design, features quaint half-timbered buildings, colorful facades, and charming flower-lined streets. Admire the iconic windmills that dot the landscape, adding a touch of whimsy and authenticity to the village’s atmosphere.

Stop by one of the authentic Danish bakeries and savor freshly baked treats like buttery Danish pastries, flaky kringle, and aromatic cinnamon rolls. Be sure to pair your treats with a warm cup of coffee or hot chocolate for the ultimate Danish culinary experience. My favorite place is the Solvang Restaurant where you can get authentic Arnie’s Aebleskivers sprinkled with powdered sugar and served with jam.
- Hans Christian Andersen Museum: Delve into the world of fairytales at the Hans Christian Andersen Museum, paying homage to the famous Danish author. Discover the life and works of Andersen through exhibits that showcase his stories, manuscripts, and personal belongings. This charming museum offers insight into the creative mind behind beloved fairytales such as “The Little Mermaid” and “The Ugly Duckling.”
- Elverhøj Museum of History and Art: Immerse yourself in Solvang’s history and local art at the Elverhøj Museum. Housed in a historic hand-built Danish-style structure, the museum showcases rotating exhibits that highlight the region’s Danish heritage, local artists, and historical artifacts. For accomodations, I stayed at the Viking Inn, a quaint little single story hotel that is decorated in the danish style of simple functionality. The room was spotless, and the queen sized bed comfortable, and a nice break from sleeping in the 4Runner.
