It has been a week since I left Phoenix, so I thought I would share some of thoughts of things I have learned.
- Less is better. Yes, I definitely overpacked. I have yet to make a hot tea in the morning or use my burner to cook anything. All I can say is I love my protein shakes!
- Car sleeping is awesome! I slept in the tent the first night, and haven’t set it up since. I definitely prefer sleeping in the 4Runner. I remove my buckets of stuff, and unfold my 4 inch mattress and have a place to sit and read, or journal, or compost a blog article if I have internet. Also once the doors are locked at night, I sleep great knowing no one can bother me.
- Be flexible. I have changed plans a few times and am glad I did. Don’t be locked into a certain spot or decision, if another one will save you time, or gas.
- Enjoy the moment. I am truly loving my time alone. I love doing what I want to do, or not do something if I don’t feel like it. It really is freeing to be able to choose what you want to do everyday.
- Get gas. A great habit to get into is to stop and get gas when you are at a half tank. It’s the perfect time to stretch, use the restroom, and take a quick break.
My trip has been an amazing adventure so far, and I still have a long way to go.
I think everyone should take time and travel…it reminds us not only how much we have to be grateful for, but also how unbelievably beautiful this country we live in truly is.
