As an Arizona transplant, one of our favorite places to visit is Sedona.
It truly is a wonderful place to spend the day or a weekend, which I plan to do in January and March, as I am attending a couple of conferences there.
We enjoyed Thanksgiving Thursday with the family, ate too much turkey with all the trimming, and decided a road trip was a much better option than a trip to the mall.
We headed to Sedona pretty early, and enjoyed the ride, as it was a beautiful day!
Sedona was pretty busy…I guess a lot of people preferred nature over the malls!
Our first hiking option had a full parking lot, so we headed to option two, and found a place on the side of the road to park.
There is a $5.00 permit fee required, but they take debit or credit cards, so you don’t have to worry about carrying cash.
The hike turned out to be a bit over 6 miles, and we could have gone farther, but the halfway point was the river, so it was a great place to sit and rest, have some water and let Murphy play in the water.
The hike wasn’t too challenging, but you do drop down on the first leg to get to the river.
The elevation is around 4000 feet, so you may be a bit more winded if you live at sea level, like we do in Phoenix.
If you are ever in Arizona, I absolutely recommend spending time in Sedona.
There are quite a few hiking options from easy to hard, and lots of hikes in the 1-2 mile range, if you are new to hiking. There are longer trails if you are in shape and can hike for 10 miles or more.
Enjoy hiking in a little piece of heaven on earth!
