11 Things You Probably Don’t Know About Me

I thought this would be a great way to introduce myself to new readers, and for my current readers to learn more about me.

I have led a very interesting life, and have a unique childhood background, and I am grateful for it all as it has led to me this time and place in my life…which is total freedom!

  1. I was born in Las Vegas, Nevada in December of 1964 to Don and Joyce Pors. I know talking about one’s parents can sometimes bring up a lot of stuff, but my parents were two incredible people. They always supported me and my decisions, even when they knew they weren’t the best. They introduced me to so many things, allowed me to make mistakes, learn from those mistakes and grow. We always took family vacations in our motorhome, and spent a lot of time camping growing up. A fun fact about my childhood is that my Uncle Jake owned the Dunes Hotel, so I spent a lot of time on the grounds growing up and I have wonderful memories of my Great Aunt and Uncle, Lois and Jake Gottlieb.
  2. I moved to New Jersey at the age of 15 1/2 and started my Junior year at Ocean City High School, located in a little beach community in south Jersey. Talk about culture shock as it was different in all ways from Clark High School in Las Vegas. The reason for the move was my dad opened the Golden Nugget on the Atlantic City Boardwalk with Steve Wynn in 1980.
  3. I was an unconventional Girl Scout. Yes, we sold cookies to raise money, but we used that money to hike, and bike and explore the west. I have hiked over 300 miles in the Grand Canyon, hiked Mt Charleston in NV multiple times, biked Death Valley, and learned about the geography, the birds and the animals in all those places.
  4. I was a club swimmer in Las Vegas, and swam for the Sandpipers. We practiced at UNLV, and my best stroke was the Backstroke, where I mostly placed first in my division.
  5. I followed my dad into gaming after college, and spent 21 years in the industry. It allowed me to live and work all over the country…New Jersey, Connecticut, Northern Nevada, and Arizona.
  6. I am the mother of 2. John is a Navy Sailor, and Kate works for Lyft corporate with plans to move to London soon.
  7. I have 2 brothers, who have incredible families, and am one of those lucky people who can actually say I love them all. We all get along, and although we all live in the Phoenix valley we never get sick of each other.
  8. I have been a lifelong traveler, as my mother was always taking us somewhere. Our longest trip was in 1979 when she drove our Winnebago motorhome, my brothers and I, along with our dog on a 9 week around the country tour. My dad had just started a new job so was unable to join us until we got to Colorado, and helped drive us home. Remember this was before cell phones, credit cards, and GPS, and we survived!
  9. My big dream is to own a ranch, with horses and goats and a huge vegetable and flower garden.
  10. I have 2 best friends that I have known for 40+ years. They are the sisters of my heart and can’t imagine life without them.
  11. Jesus is my rock, and I can’t conceive of doing life without him in it. He is my savior, my friend, and my heavenly father.

I hope you enjoyed learning more about me, and my history.

We all have our stories, with mountains and valleys, but we wouldn’t be here at this moment, and you wouldn’t be the person you are, without experiencing each and every one of them.

Love your journey….every moment of it!
