Day 4 in Prague: Hiking, Castles, and Brews with Adventure Tribe

On Day 4 of my Prague adventure, I traded city streets for the great outdoors with an exciting excursion that combined hiking, history, and a taste of local beer. The excursion was run by Adventure Tribe, and booked through the Get Your Guide app. I embarked on a memorable day trip that took me to Ve Skalach, the majestic Hrubá Skála Castle, and a local brewery. Here’s a fun and informative recap of the day’s adventures!

Ve Skalach: Hiking Through History and Nature

The day began with a scenic hike at Ve Skalach, a stunning natural area located in the Bohemian Paradise (Český ráj) region. Ve Skalach, which translates to “In the Rocks,” is known for its towering sandstone formations, deep forests, and panoramic views that make it a favorite among hikers and nature lovers. The region’s unique landscape has been shaped over millions of years, with the sandstone rocks eroded into dramatic shapes that rise like giants from the forest floor.

Hiking in Ve Skalach

As we hiked through the trails, our guide from Adventure Tribe shared fascinating stories about the area’s history and geology. The Bohemian Paradise is one of the oldest nature reserves in the Czech Republic, established in 1955, and has long been a source of inspiration for artists, writers, and filmmakers. Walking among these ancient rocks, it was easy to see why.

Lunch with a View: Hrubá Skála Castle

After our invigorating hike, we headed to Hrubá Skála Castle for a well-deserved lunch. Perched atop a steep cliff, this stunning castle offers not only a rich history but also breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. The castle dates back to the 14th century and has been a fortress, a noble residence, and even a luxury spa over the centuries.

Hrubá Skála Castle

Today, Hrubá Skála is a popular destination for tourists, not only for its historical significance but also for its picturesque setting. The castle’s restaurant provided the perfect spot for lunch, where I enjoyed delicious Czech cuisine while gazing out over the dramatic landscape. It was the ideal way to refuel after a morning of hiking, with the castle’s atmosphere adding a touch of medieval charm to the meal. Also climb to the top of the tower for a view of the valley.

A Taste of Tradition: Lomnické Pivo Brewery

No Czech excursion would be complete without a taste of the country’s famous beer, and our next stop was Lomnické Pivo Brewery. This small, traditional brewery is known for producing high-quality craft beers using time-honored methods. As part of the tour, we were treated to a beer-making demonstration, where the brewmaster explained the process from start to finish—from selecting the ingredients to the fermentation and aging process.

After the demonstration, we got to sample some of the brewery’s finest offerings, including their signature pale ales and lagers. There’s something special about enjoying a cold beer right where it was made, especially after a day of exploring. The brewery’s warm, welcoming atmosphere made it a highlight of the day, and I left with a newfound appreciation for Czech beer culture.
