Packing for an extended trip can be a bit daunting.
You want to make sure you have everything you need, but of course you don’t want to overpack.
Here are 5 things that are vital for a successful trip.
- Comfortable Walking Shoes – I am a huge fan of hiking boots, especially waterproof ones. Hiking boots are well cushioned, supportive and come in all styles and colors. Make sure you break them in a bit before you leave for your trip to avoid blisters.
- Rain Jacket and Umbrella – are an absolute must for your travel bag. I recommend a good rain jacket shell especially one with a head cover that can be folded away when not in use. A small travel umbrella takes up very little room and is nice to have just because you never know.
- Quick dry pants – for rainy days, or days that may have a chance of rain. You don’t want to be stuck inside because you don’t have the right clothes for being out and about.
- Theft proof travel bag or backpack – I recommend a backpack that has the main zipper on the side against your back. Make sure you don’t leave anything valuable, like a phone, in the side pockets, as they can disappear quickly, as my daughter found out in Amsterdam when her iphone went missing.
- Travel journal and pen – there is something really special about writing about your daily adventures at the end of the day. I love having a hard copy where I can record my thoughts, my feelings and everything I experienced that day!
We will be discussing other items needed when traveling, but this is a good place to begin. I recommend spending more to get better quality items, which will serve you for years to come.
